Open the TrueNAS mail settings
Send storage and system health warnings through Microsoft 365. Open System Settings and Email, enter the SMTP transport, and send a test before enabling alert services.
Treat silence as a condition to monitor
Storage systems may send nothing while healthy, so create a periodic test or maintenance reminder. Review the dedicated client’s counters after upgrades and revoke its connection when the appliance is retired or rebuilt.
Configure recipients and alert services
TrueNAS commonly sends administrative mail to the email address assigned to the root or administrator account. Verify that recipient before relying on the SMTP test alone.
Review Alert Settings and services after mail transport works. Prioritize pool degradation, SMART failures, scrub results, replication, certificates, and update failures; tune informational alerts to avoid fatigue.
Before you save
Use the connected Microsoft 365 address as the sender. Store the generated password securely; it cannot be displayed again.
Send a small test message to an address you control. Confirm delivery before enabling production notifications.
If the test fails
Check that port 587 is permitted by the network, STARTTLS is enabled, and no spaces were copied into the credentials.
Never share passwords or message content. Revoke and recreate the connection if the password is lost.
